Meet Your Tutor – Mike – 2FLUX
Hi, I’m Mike, founder of Surrey DJ Academy and an active working DJ with a passion for helping people discover the confidence, creativity, and enjoyment that DJing can bring.
My own DJ journey has taken me from dedicated training at London Sound Academy through to performing at venues including Ministry of Sound, Egg London, Eden Ibiza, and a wide range of club, bar, and private events. Alongside club performances, I also regularly play mobile and open-format events across Surrey, Sussex, Kent, and Essex, adapting to different crowds, musical tastes, and atmospheres.
Musically, my comfort zone sits within house, tech house, Latin house, and uplifting electronic music, but one of the things I love most about DJing is its variety. Whether it’s commercial dance, party classics, disco, funky house, chill house, open-format sets, or underground club sounds, I believe great DJing is about understanding people, energy, and creating memorable moments through music.
At Surrey DJ Academy, students learn on professional industry-standard Pioneer DJ equipment, including CDJ-3000s, an A9 mixer, and the Pioneer DJS-1000 sampler, helping students gain experience on the same style of setup used in professional clubs and festivals worldwide. For beginners, we also teach using the popular Pioneer FLX4 controller, connected to both Mac and PC, making learning accessible and comfortable for those starting their DJ journey.
My teaching approach is relaxed, supportive, and completely tailored to the individual. Every student learns differently, progresses at a different pace, and comes with different goals — whether that’s learning a new hobby, building confidence, mixing for fun, creating mixes at home, or working towards performing live.
As someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people, I place a strong emphasis on helping students feel comfortable, understood, and confident behind the decks. DJing should be exciting, creative, and enjoyable — never intimidating. My aim is not just to teach technical skills, but to help students build confidence, enjoy the process, and get the most out of their own DJ journey.
